From the Lensmate team

Grey eyes have a sort of calm, cool look that's hard to get any other way. They're not as obvious as bright blue, and they go with pretty much everything, from a work outfit to a black dress on a night out. It's the colour a lot of us here reach for when we want a change that still feels grown up.

We've got a good few greys, and they're more different from each other than you'd think. Some lean silver, some lean blue, and one or two have a hint of warmth in them.

Grey contact lenses for dark and brown eyes

If your eyes are dark brown, you need a grey with plenty of pigment, or it just looks muddy. Steel Grey, Profound Grey, Luster Grey, Meteor Grey, Jasmine Grey, Norway Grey and Paradise Grey are all made to cover dark eyes. Profound Grey gives the biggest change, with cool undertones that really stand out. Luster Grey is highly pigmented too, but it still reads as a natural grey. Daisy Grey is a light grey that also covers dark brown nicely.

On very dark eyes, greys tend to look lighter and more silvery outdoors and a touch deeper indoors. That's normal, and it's part of what makes them look real.

Soft, natural greys

For something subtle, try Paradise Grey, Norway Grey or Ocean Grey. Norway Grey has a silvery finish that's lovely in daylight, and Ocean Grey is an easy light grey for everyday wear. Jasmine Grey is 14.0mm, so it's one of our smaller lenses and looks very natural. Most of the others are 14.2mm, which keeps the iris close to its normal size.

Grey Haze is a grey with a slight brown tint, so it's a good pick if pure grey feels too cold for your skin tone.

Bolder, cooler greys

Carbon Grey and Wild Grey are 14.5mm, so they make the iris look slightly bigger and bolder. Dolphin Grey is a cool grey with lots of pigment, and it's especially pretty on fair skin. Tulip Grey, Quartz and Glacier Grey sit in between, with a smart, polished grey that works for nights out and photos.

Our grey styling tips

  • Grey goes with almost any shadow, but smoky browns and soft pinks are our favourites.
  • A thin line of charcoal or black liner makes grey look sharper and more silvery.
  • On warm or olive skin, try Grey Haze or Luster Grey so the colour doesn't look too icy.
  • Grey is brilliant for cosplay characters with pale or silver eyes too, without needing a full blackout lens.

Grey Contact Lenses FAQs

Do grey contact lenses work on brown eyes?
Yes, if you pick one made for dark eyes. Steel Grey, Profound Grey, Luster Grey, Meteor Grey, Jasmine Grey, Norway Grey and Paradise Grey all cover dark brown eyes. Daisy Grey covers dark brown too. Lighter, less pigmented greys can look a bit muddy on very dark eyes.
Which grey contacts look the most natural?
Norway Grey, Paradise Grey and Jasmine Grey are our most natural looking greys. Jasmine Grey is 14.0mm, which is close to a normal iris, and Norway Grey has a soft silvery finish. They look like a real light eye colour rather than a costume lens.
What's the most dramatic grey contact lens?
Profound Grey gives the biggest change on dark eyes, with cool undertones that really show. Dolphin Grey is very pigmented as well. If you want a bigger looking iris, Carbon Grey and Wild Grey are 14.5mm, so they look slightly bolder.
Do grey contacts look blue?
Some can, depending on the light and what you're wearing. Cooler greys like Dolphin Grey and Profound Grey can look a little blue grey in daylight or with blue clothes. Grey Haze has a slight brown tint, so it stays more neutral and warm.
What skin tone suits grey contact lenses?
Grey suits most skin tones. Cooler greys like Dolphin Grey and Profound Grey look especially fresh on fair skin. On olive, tanned or deeper skin, softer or warmer greys like Grey Haze and Luster Grey look really striking without seeming too icy.
Are grey coloured contact lenses safe?
Ours are CE certified and non prescription, and they're safe to wear if you care for them properly. Wash your hands first, use fresh solution every time, never use tap water, never share them and never sleep in them. If they sting or feel odd, take them out straight away.
How long do grey contact lenses last?
Our grey contacts last up to 12 months once opened, as long as you clean and store them properly. Rub and rinse them after each wear and keep them in fresh solution in a clean case. Don't top up old solution, always use new.
Are grey contacts comfortable?
Most people find them really comfy. Dolphin Grey, Luster Grey, Grey Haze and Glacier Grey have 42% water content, so they feel a bit softer and more moist. The others are 38 to 40%, which is standard and comfortable for most people.
Can I wear grey contacts without a prescription?
Yes. All our lenses are non prescription (0.00 power), so they're purely for changing your eye colour. If you need glasses to see, you can wear them over the top, or ask an optician about prescription coloured lenses.
How quickly can I get grey contact lenses in the UK?
Order before 2pm on a working day and we send it out the same day with Royal Mail next day delivery. There's a paid Saturday option too. Every pair is £12.99 or any 2 for £22.99 or 3 for £31.99, and you can pay later with Klarna.
