Black contact lenses for Halloween and gothic looks

There's something about a black lens that changes your whole face. Even with no make up on, the eyes go flat and dark and people do a double take. We wear black contacts every Halloween, and a few of us sneak them in for gigs and goth club nights the rest of the year too.

This collection covers the full range, from plain solid black to designs with patterns, glitter and a bit of white. All of them have strong pigment, so they cover any eye colour, including dark brown.

All black eye contacts vs black sclera lenses

This is the question we get most. Our Black Round Contact Lenses are a solid black iris with a clear pupil, so you can see normally. They make your eyes look like big dark pools, which is brilliant for vampires, demons and Day of the Dead. The Black Sclera Contact Lenses are different. They're a full blackout with no pupil hole, so your vision is blocked. They're 14mm, so they cover the iris and a little more rather than the whole white of your eye. Use those for photos, not for walking about at a party.

If you want even more black, the Super Black Contact Lenses are 16mm, which makes the eye look noticeably bigger and darker. Great for creepy doll looks.

Black contacts with a twist

Not every black lens has to be plain. Space Black Contact Lenses are a slightly different take on black that makes more of a statement, and they're one we reach for when a plain black feels too simple. Black & Gold Contact Lenses add a gold glitter ring that catches the light nicely in photos. The Black Butterfly Contact Lenses have a pattern that looks great up close. How to style black contacts

Our main tip is to keep the skin around the eyes light or pale. Black lenses with heavy black shadow can just look like holes. A smudge of grey or a pale base makes the black stand out. For vampires, a bit of fake blood on the lip finishes it off. On camera, a ring light picks up glitter designs really well.

Black lenses can make a room feel darker, especially at night, as the coloured area sits around your pupil. Give yourself a minute to adjust. Wash and dry your hands first, use fresh solution every time and never sleep in them. If they sting, take them out.

Do black contacts work on brown eyes?
Yes, really well. Black lenses are fully opaque, so they'll cover brown, hazel, green or blue eyes completely. On dark brown eyes the change is more subtle in some lights, as your natural eye is already dark, but up close the solid black still looks very different from a normal brown iris.
