From the Lensmate team

Gold eyes are one of those looks that sound a bit much until you try them. In real life they come across as warm and bright, like the sun's catching your eyes. We've got two very different gold contact lenses here, one for everyday and one for when you want people to notice.

Natural gold contact lenses for brown eyes

Golden Hazel Contact Lenses are the one we wear most. It's a golden hazel brown that warms up dark eyes without looking fake. They're 14.2mm, so they look natural rather than doll like, and they cover dark eyes nicely, so you get the colour even if your own eyes are very dark brown.

In daylight they look properly golden, almost honey coloured. Indoors they settle into more of a warm hazel. That's what we like about them, they change a bit through the day and people can't quite work out what's different. At 42% water content they feel soft and moist, so they're comfy for a long day.

Black and gold lenses for a bolder look

Black & Gold Contact Lenses are the opposite. They're a black lens with a gold glitter ring, which gives a dark, dramatic eye with a little flash of gold. We love them for a gothic party look, a witch or demon costume, or cosplay characters with dark eyes and a bit of shine. At 14.5mm they give a slightly bigger, bolder iris too.

How we'd style gold eyes

  • A tiny bit of brown or bronze liner makes Golden Hazel pop. Black liner works too, but it can make them look darker.
  • Warm shadows (bronze, copper, peach) bring out the gold. Cool greys and blues tend to fight with it.
  • Gold eyes suit tanned and medium skin really well, but on paler skin they look lovely with a bronzy blush.
  • For Black & Gold, go dark and smoky and let the ring do the talking.

Want more of a yellow gold?

If you're after the golden yellow eyes from films and anime, rather than a natural gold, have a look at our yellow and hazel ranges too. Twilight Bella in our yellow range is a proper golden yellow with a dark ring, and Amber in our hazel range is a warm, rich shade that sits between brown and gold.

Price, delivery and care

Every pair is £12.99, and any 2 pairs are £22.99, so you can grab a natural pair for everyday and a fun pair for weekends. Orders before 2pm on a working day go out the same day with Royal Mail, and you can pay later with Klarna if that helps.

Both pairs are non prescription and CE certified, and last up to 12 months with proper care. Rub and rinse them in fresh solution, store them in a clean case, never use tap water and always remove them before sleeping.

Gold Contact Lenses FAQs

Do gold contact lenses look natural?
Golden Hazel can look really natural. It's a golden hazel brown at 14.2mm, so the size is close to your own iris and the colour reads as warm eyes rather than a costume. Black & Gold is the opposite and is made to be noticed. If you want natural, start with Golden Hazel.
Do gold contacts work on dark brown eyes?
Yes. Golden Hazel Contact Lenses cover dark eyes, so even very dark brown eyes come out golden. In daylight they look properly gold and honey toned, and indoors they look more like a warm hazel. Black & Gold is mostly black, so your natural colour doesn't matter much with that one.
What's the difference between gold and hazel contact lenses?
Hazel is usually a mix of brown and green or brown and amber, while gold leans warmer and brighter, more like honey or sunlight. Golden Hazel sits right in the middle, which is why we put it in both ranges. If you want something a bit deeper and richer, have a look at Amber in our hazel collection.
Are gold contact lenses safe?
Ours are non prescription and CE certified, and they're safe to wear if you look after them. Wash and dry your hands first, use fresh solution every time, never tap water, and never sleep in them or share them. If they sting or feel wrong, take them out. If you've had eye issues, check with an optician first.
What skin tone suits gold contact lenses?
Gold eyes tend to look gorgeous on tanned, olive and medium skin, because the warmth matches. On darker skin they really stand out, which is lovely if you want a bold look. On fair skin they work best with warm make up like bronzer and peachy blush, so the gold doesn't look out of place.
Can you get gold contacts for cosplay?
Yes. Black & Gold is great for dark eyed characters with a bit of shine, and Golden Hazel works for characters with warm amber or golden eyes. If your character has bright yellow gold eyes, check our yellow range too, like Twilight Bella. Any 2 pairs are £22.99, so you can mix and match.
How long do gold contact lenses last?
Ours last up to 12 months once opened, as long as you clean and store them properly. After each wear, rub and rinse them in fresh solution and pop them back in a clean case with fresh solution. Don't top up old solution, always use new.
Will gold contact lenses change my eye colour completely?
Golden Hazel is opaque, so it covers your natural colour and gives a golden hazel look, though it's designed to blend so it looks believable. Black & Gold covers your eye with black and a gold ring, so that one is a full change. Neither will look exactly like the photo on everyone, as eyes and lighting vary.
Are gold contacts comfortable?
Golden Hazel has 42% water content, so it feels a bit softer and more moist than standard lenses, and that helps on long days. Black & Gold is 38%, which is standard and comfy for most people. Like any lenses, take breaks, blink and take them out if your eyes feel dry.
Do you deliver gold contact lenses next day?
Yes. Order before 2pm on a working day and we post it the same day with Royal Mail next day delivery. There's a paid Saturday delivery option too. Every pair is £12.99, any 2 for £22.99 or 3 for £31.99, and every order comes with free sweeties.
